MEDICOLEGAL INVESTIGATOR (MLI)

Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME), New York, NY / Aug 2024 – Present

  • Conducts death investigations resulting from criminal violence, suicide, accidents, deaths in correctional facilities, sudden deaths unattended by a physician, or in an unnatural manner

  • Write reports, obtain medical records and additional hospital specimens pertaining to the death investigation, and perform follow up investigations of behalf of Medical Examiners as requested

  • Interview witnesses, observe the death scene and prepare detailed descriptions, examine and take possession of bodies

  • Identify and establish evidentiary value of items for evidence, document and direct the removal of evidence while safeguarding its quality, and establish/ maintain chain of custody

  • Obtain and coordinate positive identification through visual recognition, x-ray, dental records, descriptive evidence, and fingerprint records

 

AQUATICS COORDINATOR

YMCA of Greater Monmouth County, Freehold, NJ / Jan 2024 – July 2024

  • Mentor lifeguards, head guards, swim instructors, and other reporting aquatics personnel by conducting effective onboarding and training for new employees, along with monthly in-service training for current employees

  • Develop schedules, manage swim lessons and certification classes in the YMCA’s CRM database, oversees guards, and ensures safety and risk prevention policies are followed by maintaining safe conditions

  • Assists with record maintenance by monitoring daily chemical readings in pools and on chemical systems, and reporting when chemical levels are out of range and/or maintenance issues

 

RESEARCH, PHYSICAL ANTHROPOLOGY LABORATORY

  • Worked in Dr. Shannon Novak’s lab (a bioarchaeologist) on human skeletal remains from the Spring Street Project, and stored remains from archaeological excavations, teaching collections, and the medical university

  • Performed photo processing to aid in digital inventory of human remains, laboratory intake of remains, ossuary coding with segregation analyses and written reports, and examined various osteological pathologies

  • Worked alongside the NJ State Forensic Anthropologist to assist with active cases, performed mock cases with written reports, and attended searches, an excavation, and lectures

  • Assisted with macerating remains, identifying human versus nonhuman bones, and became familiarized with NamUs, NCIC, and Fordisc 3.1

 

INTERN, ANTHROPOLOGY & UNDERWATER ARCHAEOLOGY

American Anthropological Association, Arlington, VA & Naval History and Heritage Command, Washington, D.C.  / July 2022 – Aug 2022

  • At the Washington Navy Yard, I worked under the Naval History and Heritage Command’s (NHHC) Underwater Archaeology Branch (UAB) for six weeks. During this time, my main project revolved around the ship, the Royal Savage, which dates to the American Revolution, when it was sunk. The ship was recovered in the 1930s and I mainly dealt with artifact documentation and/ or re-documentation of pieces of this ship, along with performing archaeological and historical research regarding this and various other projects, including one on a submarine off the coast of CA

  • At the same time in the American Anthropological Association (AAA) office, I conducted an analysis on a member survey under the Education and Research team using quantitative methods to create and cross-reference basic data visualizations based on the 2021 member survey with the ability to expand my expertise into various tasks meant to improve my writing, such as an article for Anthropology News, research, and YouTube accessibility

  • Assisted students at Monmouth University with a variety of classes in anthropology, biology, and elementary Italian disciplines
